Vancouver Girls Softball 2020 League

Aug. 7th, 2020 is the deadline for refunds.
Please email your option with Player name to vgsaregistrar@gmail.com

Coaches, Parents, Umpires, and Players:

Parents, Coaches, and Players,

It is with a heavy heart that I convey to you that at the Board Meeting held on July 13th, it was decided to cancel the 2020 League season.  Our justification is that Clark County is currently at 59 cases / 100,000 residents.  The metric that must be met to get to Phase 3 is <25 cases / 100,000 residents over a 14-day period.  Governor Inslee has also paused all applications by counties until July 28th. The earliest that Clark County can possibly achieve Phase 3 is now august 2020. Our league season would go throughout the month of August, and possibly into September.  Parents have shared they do not want to be playing league during this time.

VGSA is continuing to pursue all tournaments. We have a tournament scheduled every weekend in August. If your team is looking for a fundraiser, we need concession stand and field crew help on these tournaments in August.  Please contact Rick Hansen at rhansen2@ix.netcom.com if you are interested.

VGSA has developed three options regarding the refunds for spring fees.  With little to no income contributing to our budget, VGSA will struggle to keep the complex going for the remainder of 2020.  Most of our income is derived from the tournaments that we typically run through the months of May to July each year. Registration fees only cover about 30% of our costs. We are asking you to consider the three options carefully when making your decision.

The three options are:

  • Full refund minus $20 fundraising fee.
  • Donate, as a taxable deduction, 100% of your registration fee
  • Donate 50% of the registration fee, 50% refunded (less the VGSA Fundraiser fee of $20.00)
  • Credit fees to play Fall Ball. A refund would consist of your paid registration fee less $40.00 ($20.00 VGSA fundraiser; $20.00 USA registration fee that VGSA would pay)
    • Fall Ball does not require a separate registration process.  Teams register to play, and they pay a fee, similar to tournaments.
  • Please email your option with Player name to vgsaregistrar@gmail.com

Your League Directors will be sending out an email that explains the options further and asking for the needed information to make our final decisions regarding Fall Ball.

The VGSA Board remains optimistic that even though league is cancelled, we hope to get some tournament play at VGSA and hopefully a Fall Ball season.  Of course, this is all predicated on getting to Phase 3.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at vgsafields@gmail.com

Respectfully,

Nikki Meler

VGSA League President
